The Swimming Gardener

Steve White

On Saturday August 13th 2011, Steve White aka 'The Swimming Gardener' will undertake a mammoth 15-mile swim to raise over £22,000 for the Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice in West Sussex. 20% of donations will also go to the RNLI, saving lives at Sea. The figure of £22,000 comes from approximately £1 per metre swum!

The Challenge involves swimming from Littlehampton Lifeboat Station to Worthing Pier and back. At the half-way stage, the Worthing Birdman Festival will be taking place worthingbirdman.co.uk and organisers have kindly agreed to announce Steve’s arrival and allow us to collect from the expected crowd of 20,000 people.

So far, Steve has organised a safety boat, backing and route planning from the RNLI, the logo, a dedicated website, local media backing, celebrity backing and a helicopter to film the event to aid television coverage.

Blue Seventy

The Swimming Gardener has also been successful in securing a sponsored race-suit from Blue Seventy, the worlds leading Open water swimming specialists. This is not just any wetsuit, they have provided their latest spec 2010 'helix' as worn by winning open water swimmers worldwide.
